When you can't go outside.

We've had hardly any snow all winter, so when we got a big snowstorm a few weeks ago while A was sick, I couldn't bear to keep it from her!  I didn't want to take her outside while she was sick, so I brought a bunch of snow inside and let her play with it in the sink.  

These are the items I added:

-tongs

-measuring cup

-plastic cup

-plastic ice cubes

-foam numbers from a puzzle

-mini wooden spoon

She had so much fun.  Her favorite part was eating it (which makes my stomach turn) but I let her do it for a little bit and then we melted the snow with the faucet. 

  She thought that part was fun too.

Ocean Sensory Bin

I put together the ocean sensory bin from Playing House and was really excited for A to enjoy it.

First we tried it without water.

Next, we added the water and tried using the fishing net.

Finally, A decided it was best used as a teeny tiny pool!

This turned out being more of a flop for us, mostly because A just wanted to swim in it and throw the rocks all over.  We'll try again next year and maybe she'll enjoy the "fishing" aspect of it then!

Playing in the snow...inside.

Occasionally when it is too cold to go outside, but there is a fresh coating of snow, I'll bring the snow inside for A to play with.  It starts out in a little bin, but usually ends up just on her little table.  I give her spoons and a funnel, Little People, bowls, etc.  She starts with mittens on, but they come off and she eventually ends up eating it (yuck!).  If her clothes get wet, I just put her right into her jammies when we're done.  It's a good way to beat cabin fever!
