great game

This is a great game I found at a thrift store recently.  It has several ways of playing.  It comes with a set of dice (one colors and one shapes.).  You can play with or without the dice.  You can play with one or both.  It works with shape and color recognition, identification and taking turns. 

A has a lot of fun with this game and will play it alone or with one of us.  I'd never heard of it before, but I really like it!

Spring colors sheet

A and I worked on this the other day and I was so pleased at how well she did.  I traced over the color words ahead of time.  I would point to a word and ask, "what color?"  A would answer and find that color marker and color in the umbrella.  I think she did a terrific job color matching and coloring the umbrellas.  You can print your own umbrella color sheet from the Spring Unit over at Musings of Me.

Colors Book

A and I made her first colors book over the past week.  You can download a copy of your own here, courtesy of Confessions of a Homeschooler.  If you haven't ever visited her blog, it's a terrific resource!

I printed the pages out and cut out the pictures.  We worked on one color at a time.  I would put glue on the back of the picture and A would put it where she wanted.  When we were done with all of the colors, we went back and I had her put stickers on the pages.  It took a few different times of us sitting down to do it, but A was really excited when she saw that she had a book of her own that she made.

Color Sorting

While we were out of town, we visited The Land of Nod. (if you've never been to the store or website, you should...they have the best stuff!)  I got this color sorting puzzle for A.  I really wanted to buy this one but it was twice as much and I thought it might be too hard for her.  Well, I introduced the puzzle to her on our car trip, and she got it almost instantly!  It's a fun, simple activity and I was really impressed with the quality of this product.  Even though she's mastered this puzzle, I think she'll find it fun to play with still for a little while.  

Pompom sorting

I tried this activity with A today. I had a handful of pompoms and put one of each color into the muffin tin. I would hand A a pompom and say, "where does the (name of color) one go?" She would look around and place it in the correct compartment. This held her attention and she did a great job.
